Juanito

Juanito is an older man who works out at the orphanage during the week. He's pretty much the man of the house around here. He's the gardener, the handy man, grounds' keeper, etc. You name it, he does it without any complaint or any question. He also sees everything. If he even senses that you need help or that something can be done better, he does it, sometimes without anyone even asking. He's also one of the nicest people I've ever met. He reminds me so much of my granddad Da. Every day he makes sure he tells you good morning and tell you good afternoon, see you tomorrow. He can fix just about anything and he loves to get fruit for us from the trees in the yard. Most times, we'll find him up in a tree cutting down a coconut for someone. It's easy to tell that he would do anything in the world that he possibly could for these girls or for any of the workers here. He's definitely the granddad these girls never had. He lives in the city, and has to commute down the 3-mile long dirt road, every morning and every afternoon, sometimes I think he walks, which has to take him at least an hour. This is after raking leaves, fixing screens, climbing trees, and being at our beck and call all day long. And he always has a smile on his face. The girls here adore him, as do all of the workers. He's a constant male figure in the girls' lives and I think that's why they love him so much. I'm pretty sure he would work here until the day he died if he could. And everyone here would love to have him around. Seeing how much he cares for these girls is one of the reasons why these girls have a better life here. It's the people like Juanito who work here that give the girls a better chance.
